On August 29,2000, I had a double mastectomy and reconstruction. Since implants were necessary in the reconstruction, I opted to go larger to a D. I received round, textured implants filled with about 450 cc saline. By having immediate reconstruction, the surgeon was able to shave the skin as thin as possible yet save it.
I wanted other women to know that if they shop around for a Plastic Surgeon, this kind of result is possible. My scars are underneath and I can only see them with a mirror. I talked to several surgeons before I found one that cared enough not to leave the terrible scars that most women have. Many surgeons like to say it’s not cosmetic you can’t be picky, but I didn’t see why I should settle for less just because it was necessary. Luckily, I was able to find a really great doctor.
