Comments: I had never had breasts even though my sister had to have a breast reduction (how unfair) When I had my children, my breast were a large B and I adored them. Last year when I stopped breast feeding my breasts unfortunately went back to their previous size yet with a slight droop. I had used Dr. Lazarus for liposuction 2 years earlier and loved his style (very educational). I had recovered so easily from lipo that I expected the same with my BA. However, it was harder that I anticipated. I had not expected to feel so totally helpless for 3 days. I didn’t have enough fine motor skills to lift a magazine to read or open my pill bottles. My breasts were so sensitive and painful and it was difficult to get comfortable. I couldn’t stand the slightest touch or movement (car rides were unbearable). It felt like someone was sitting on my chest and my right breast rested on a nerve which caused more pain.
I had gone in with a very positive attitude and knew that it would take time to get the final result. However, those first few days I did question why I would do this to myself and I hated feeling so helpless. I had to depend on my husband and mother to care for my children which really added to my guilt and it didn’t help that I stayed zonked on pain medicine. My first visit with my PS was 3 days post-op and he told me that each day I would feel 100% better than the last. I can honestly say I didn’t believe him yet he was right. I was shocked to see how my breasts looked. They were very high and the profile looked like a shelf. I was worried yet I tried not to obsess too much which is very hard not to do. My PS reassured me that 90% of patients look like my breasts and they will soften and drop.
1 week post-op I started to feel better. I went back to work 2 weeks post-op. I am an RN and I have to do heavy lifting so that is why I waited 2 weeks. I was off the pain meds by the end of week 1 and this contributed to my feeling tired all the time. so once I was off the pain meds everything started getting better.
My best advice is to not worry, be ready for the unexpected, be patient, and have a stool softener available (the pain meds really bloat you and cause constipation). Also, have some shirts available that you can hide your breasts for the first 1-3 weeks until they drop ( I know I didn’t expect to have to hide my breast after surgery either). I wore tank tops with a nice v neck jacket over them. It showed off your nice new size yet hid the weird looking high breast.
I am 5 weeks post-op now and I am loving it!!!! Once I got back to work and quit obsessing over my breasts the changes really started happening. They are getting softer each day, dropping like crazy, and they already feel like they were always there. I tried on bathing suits the other day and it is so exciting. I can’t wait to go clothes shopping!
Overall, I would do it again. It is like childbirth. Very painful yet definitely worth it!!!
